as i was returning home yesterday, i noticed an elderly lady sitting at a card table next to the security line.
immidiately, her "my book of bible stories" jumped out at me.

My point, and my view, is that no group that advocates breaking up families, letting children die rather than give them a needed blood transfusion, hide pedofiles, and scar their people to the point that they cannot function within society to their full potential have no business on government property. This is not limited to JW's but *any* group which does not act in their own peoples best interests.
And who decides which of these groups are 'ok' and which are not 'ok'??
See jeannie, the great thing about living in a relatively 'free' society, is that people are totally free to do stupid things, like come up with crazy religions. It's not a perfect system, but its better than most of the alternatives. (My favorite would be a worldwide government ruled by a iron-fisted, yet benevolent, dictator, preferably myself.)

This seems to be a common perception, at least among xJWs. However what I want to know is, is there any truth to it? In my experience here in the U.S., each congregation forms a legal corporation for the main purpose of holding property, i.e. the local Kingdom Hall. Furthermore, each time I have heard about a Hall being sold, I have never anything said about involving the Society, which I would think would be the case if the Society did in fact own the Kingdom Hall.
Also, I would think the legal liability to the Society would far outweigh any financial advantage, especially when they are trying to distance themselves as far as they can legally from the individual congregations.
And yes, I have heard about the congregation in Texas back in the 80's that 'seceded' from the Borg and took the Hall with them. I think though, that their response to this was to make sure they were listed as lienholders on as many Kingdom Halls as possible.
So I think their real aim is to keep as many Halls in perpetual debt to the Society, owned by the local congregations, but not completely paid for.

I am right about this dude. He is seriously in denial. You should take a look at some of the debates him and AlanF have had in the past.. it was the final nail in the coffin for me leaving the WTBTS. Poor guy.

Short answer: They don't even try anymore...
This was the topic I started researching when I decided it was time to get off the fence re being a dub. I started by re-reading the appendix to chapter 14 in the Kingdom book, first printed in 1981. A careful reading will reveal that even the Society admits that all the weight of archeology points to 586/7 as the correct date. So they fall back on their misinterpretation of the scripture in Jeremiah about the 70 years and the old "we rely on the Bible over mans dates", evern though nothing in the Bible supports 607.
Well that book is over 20 years old. Surely if any new archeological evidence has been discovered since then that would support the 607 date, it would be a front-page Awake! article, at least. But there has been very little said on the topic, which leads me to suspect there has been no such find.
So then I took my questions to an elder, very smart guy, works for IBM, who claimed he had some secular evidence supporting 607. After calling his bluff, I finally pinned him down at the Hall, where he admitted he had no such evidence. As we are standing there after the meeting, people milling around, he very quietly concedes there is no real secular support. But he rationalized to himself that since this system cannot possibly continue much longer(in his mind, anyway), he needs to believe in the Society's promises.
So that was kinda the end of my 'research' phase...

It's my understanding that Jehovah's Witnesses and the Watch Tower Publishing Corporation are no longer connected. I think getting those two confused is why some people have so much trouble dealing with either of them.
Gary, are you channeling XQs now? That sounds like something he would come up with. The fact of the matter is that the people running the Publishing Corporation and running the Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses all report to Patterson.
Ex Witnesses most often confuse the Watch Tower Publishing Corporation(s) and Jehovah's Witnesses but few Witnesses of the loyal type confuse the two.

i read that in the new organized to do jehovah's will book coming out in march at the kh, elders will on say sister so and so is no longer one of jw's.
an elder that i work with said that they will announce from now on joe bloe has been disfellowshipped from the christian cong and is no longer a jw.
or jan bloe has disassociated herself and is no longer one of jw's so they are still going to say df and da but i think they are going to drop the part "conduct unbecoming of a christian" because this can get them into legal trouble when a person goes to the military or votes or takes a blood transfusion.

They dropped the "for conduct unbecoming a Christian" a loong time ago, obviously for the fact that it could be construed as slander. Heck, I think at one time they even announced the specific "sin" the person was being DF'd for.
I think your elder is confused. The word here is that the announcement will be "No Apologies is no longer one of Jehovah's Witnesses." No indication of whether it was a DF or DA.

my wife and i disassociated 3 months ago and my wifes mother is still a jw....but.....she still sees us regularly.
today, a 'clipboard' elder went down to see her.
he has been her book study overseer for a year and has never once gone to see her even though her husband is dying.
A rough illustration - you?re told not to eat a ham and cheese sandwich. But the sandwich also includes mustard. You know not to eat the ham and the cheese, but maybe you can have the mustard.
Except with the Society's current policies, you can have the bread, the ham, and the cheese, just as long as you don't eat the sandwich! Where is the logic in that? More importantly whre is the scriptural basis???

i have been visited by a local jw woman weekly for almost 4 years and started weekly study about 1 year ago.
friday things took a more serious turn and i am very uncomfortable.. i need advise on how to stop the meetings (without being offensive) and still get away from this madness before it gets out of control.
If you are feeling uncomfortable after only study, you should realize that the 'madness' will only get worse...
Don't worry about offending anyone... Its totally your choice whether or not to continue the study, don't let them pressure you into doing something you don't want to do. Just tell them you are no longer interested in studying the Bible with them, whatever questions you had about their beliefs have been answered, etc.
